From 7 to 18 February 2024, the 64th Quebec International Pee-Wee Hock
Tournament was held in Quebec City.
Despite the all-out war that was launched by Russia against Ukraine
on 24 February 2022, Ukraine was able to send a hockey team to this tournament for
the second consecutive year.
In 2023, Ukraine Team Select won two official games and two exhibition games
in the AA category.
This year, Ukraine Team Select was elevated to the AA-Elites category and won
three exhibition games.
On 12 February 2024, U.S. Consul General, Danielle Monosson, hosted Ukraine Team
Select at the U.S. General Consulate in Quebec City. During the reception,
she underscored the team’s inspiring resiliency and perseverance despite
the tremendous hardships they face and reiterated the United States’ unwavering
support for Ukraine.
The Honorary Consul of Ukraine for the Province of Quebec, Eugene Czolij, attended
this reception and greeted the players, coaches and organizers of Ukraine Team
Select. He told the 11-12 years old Ukrainian players that their presence in Quebec City
is already a big victory for Ukraine that they can be proud of and wished them
much success during the tournament.
Eugene Czolij also thanked the U.S. Consul General, Danielle Monosson, for hosting
Ukraine Team Select; Quebec businessman, Sean Bérubé, and his right-hand man,
Olivier Hubert-Benoit, for facilitating the participation of Ukraine Team Select
in this prestigious tournament; and all the families that lodged the Ukrainian hockey
players during this tournament. He also wished the Ukrainian
coaches, Ievgen Pysarenko and Volodymyr Yeryomin, all the best during
these very challenging times for Ukraine.
